ArcPad is a mobile mapping and Geographic Information System (GIS) software program. With this technology, you are able to build interactive maps within the confines of your mobile computer(laptop, CE device, tablet PC etc...) and connect to Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites. Spatial data is created and can be tagged with attribute information using the power of the companion software program, ArcPad Studio.

ArcPad Studio allows you to create data input forms that are used on your mobile computer to "load" your spatial data files with attribute information.

The Ground Water Institute offers a one-day ArcPad workshop on The University of Memphis campus. This workshop allows the student to use and become familiar with ArcPad tools and the ArcPad Graphical User Interface (GUI). The student will be introduced to the tools during the Powerpoint lessons and be able to use the tools through hands-on student exercises. This introduction to this cutting-edge technology will lead up to the introduction and use of the ArcPad Studio platform for the building of data input forms. The student will create a data input form and copy code to the modules. This code will allow the form to function and provide data validation for data entry.

There are no prerequisites for this workshop other than an interest in GIS and the possibilities presented by this workload medium. Students should be familiar with the basics of GIS but knowledge of programming techniques is not required.
